Development of a self-starting syphon (lifter) for constructed wetlands with high flow rates

We commissioned the engineering office for hydraulic and hydrometry in Habichtswald (Germany) to design and test a multiple syphon (lifter) for the currentless wastewater distribution of constructed wetlands with a connection size of more than 7000 person equivalents. The hydraulic lifter was tested true to scale in a lab (see the following pictures and a video) by ultrasound flow meters and will serve us for the design of a planted soil filter (vertical subsurface  flow constructed wetland) treating domestic wastewater of a town. The required flow rate was fixed to 140 l/s or more.
